Y'know, I have finally... FINALLY gleaned some understanding over this saclights.com shit! and thanks to an article in Mother Jones, which I have graciously provided a link to you, dear Pilgrim! This explains that:
1. McClatchy, through its guinea pig the Sacramento Bee, is joining the lemming like daily print newspaper trend toward "citizen journalism" and "reverse publishing";
2. They are stealing their strategy from Gannett, who have already plagued the local based readerships with stupid shit like "platform agnostic" content and turning its reporters into "mojos", or mobile journalists (Hello! If these folks wanted to be fuckin' TV reporters they wouldn't spend years in school in English and journalism courses, they'd be TV reporters!) while making assumptions that ANYONE can learn how to use a video or still camera;
3. Any "citizen journalist" who contributes content to these "reverse published" sites is a sucker who does not get paid and helps the paper generate ad revenue. Either that or the content contributors are so ego drunk or interest-conflicted that they don't care.
Anyway, don't take my word for it, read it yourself. I'm glad I did: Click here, Pilgrim
